The IPL 2024 game between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders was witness to a strange decision by the five-time champions as regular number three Ajinkya Rahane didn't come out to bat after the fall of the first wicket. Playing at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, the Super Kings put forth a stunning effort with the ball as they restricted the rampaging Knight Riders 136-9.
Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball as he picked up three wickets while giving away 18 runs in four overs. Supporting Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman also combined to pick up five wickets. Then in the second innings, CSK had a quick start but lost Rachin Ravindra early. Why didn't Ajinkya Rahane bat at number 3 against KKR?
But instead of Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell came into bat. CSK were forced to take this call as Rahane was off the field for the majority of the first innings due to a calf niggle. The former India captain cannot come to bat before the fall of 5 wickets or 10.50 PM IST.
Coming back to Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian all-rounder spoke about how the pitch wasn't the best to bat and had slow turn. Speaking in the mid-innings interview, Jadeja said, "He (Mustafizur) was very effective on this wicket, he bowled very good slower ones, he was amazing I think. When dew comes in the wicket changes here, it gets better for batting."
"There was slow turn, it's not a rank turner. The ball wasn't coming onto the bat nicely, just tried to target the stumps. If we play normal cricket, I think very easily chaseable on this wicket."
