India’s star batter Virat Kohli enjoys a massive fan following on social media. The 34-year-old has over 350 million followers across different social media platforms. Kohli is also the second-most followed Indian celebrity on Twitter, sitting only behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also, as is the case with verified accounts on the microblogging platform, Kohli’s account also has a blue tick.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also a verified account on Twitter. But instead of a blue ticket, BCCI’s account has a golden tick. But why? Many fans have been left puzzled by this difference between the two verified accounts. So, here is the explanation for why Virat Kohli has a blue tick while BCCI has a golden tick on Twitter.
Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter’s ownership, the platform now has multiple badges that differentiate profiles. While there is the traditional blue badge that comes bundled with Twitter Blue verification; there's an "official" label, also known as the grey badge, and there's the recently introduced golden badge.
While the blue badge is for individuals who have verified accounts on Twitter, the yellow/golden badge is for business accounts. So, as Virat Kohli is an individual and BCCI is an organization doing business, there is this difference in their badges on Twitter.
Also, apart from blue and yellow badges, Twitter is also planning to relaunch "automated labels" to provide transparency about bot profiles. When an account displays the "automated" label, users will know that the account is generating automated content not produced by a human. It is currently in testing, and it appears on account profiles under profile names and handles.
