Sri Lanka have announced their 15-member squad for ODI World Cup 2023 with Chamika Karunaratne also travelling with the squad as reserve player. Surprisingly, Sri Lanka have announced a squad for ODI WC 2023 without Wanindu Hasaranga, their key spinner was this year.
Sri Lanka Cricket in a statement added, "Hasaranga has been recovering from the injury and he will monitored closely and if he gets fit to play then he will be considered as a replacement in the event of an injury to a squad member during the tournament."
Hasaranga also missed out playing at the Asia Cup due to the same hamstring injury. Notably, in this calendar year, he has taken 28 wickets from 14 matches at the economy of 5.06. Hasaranga played a key role with the ball in 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers, which helped their side to enter the 2023 edition of the quadrennial tournament.
Sri Lanka will be playing their first match of ODI World Cup 2023 against South Africa on 7th October in Delhi.
