On Friday, September 20, the second day’s play during the first India versus Bangladesh Test match had a peculiar moment when Shakib Al Hasan got spotted biting a mysterious string while facing the bowlers. The incident grabbed the attention of social media, and the fans speculated the reasons for it before Dinesh Karthik, who was commentating on the Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, revealed that it allowed Shakib to keep his head from tilting towards leg side, to have balance and control at the crease while batting.

Notably, Shakib Al Hasan had recently consulted an ophthalmologist in London after struggling with vision problems, as per the report from NDTV. This could also be connected as to why Shakib Al Hasan was biting a mysterious string under his helmet while taking on the Indian bowlers during the first innings of Bangladesh on day two of the first Test match apart from trying to keep his head straight while batting.

Shakib Al Hasan top scored for Bangladesh with 32 runs in first innings against India in first Test

While explaining the reason behind why Shakib Al Hasan was biting the mysterious thread in his batting innings, Dinesh Karthik also thanked Bangladesh legend Tamim Iqbal, who had given him the information in the first place. Apart from Athar Ali Khan, Tamim Iqbal is another voice bringing the perspective of the Bangladesh cricket team and their fans in the commentary box for Star Sports during the first Test match in Chennai.

Moreover, it is also important to note that Shakib Al Hasan was biting his jersey while playing for Bangla Tigers in the Global T20 Canada. Switching gears to the first innings of Bangladesh in the first Test match, the left-handed batter top scored for the team with 32 off 64, which included five fours before getting dismissed trying to reverse sweep Ravindra Jadeja, only to find the hands of Rishabh Pant.

After Bangladesh were bundled out for 149 runs in response to the first innings total of 376 from the Indian cricket team, the hosts decided to not enforce the follow-on, and at the end of second day’s play, they found themselves on 81/3.
