Novak
Djokovic has reckoned that he will give a tough fight to the rising youngsters,
who are making the right noise to eclipse him with their on-field performances.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest (19 years and 130 days) World No.1
in the history of ATP rankings. He beat Norway's Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3
in the US Open to clinch the US Open 2022 title.
I n this regard,
Djokovic thinks Alcaraz has emerged as the new force in the ATP but intends to
give his best against him and other talented youngsters. Over the years, Djokovic
along with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have dominated the Tennis world with
their terrific performances.
Earlier
this year, Djokovic slipped four places to mark his presence at the seventh
position despite retaining the Wimbledon title. This was due to WTA’s decision
to not award any points for the Wimbledon victory, as the tournament organizers
banned Russian and Belarusian players owing to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The 21-time
Grand Slam champion thinks Alcaraz certainly has the ability to dominate the
games in the coming years. He further added that the youngsters have posed a
strong challenge, but he will look to be proficient with his performances.
“Alcaraz
definitely looks like somebody who has the intention to dominate the game in
the years to come.
“So I think
it is good that there are some new faces, but I will not give up. I will make
sure I kick their butts for as long as I possibly can! They will kick my butt
sometimes maybe, but hopefully, less than I kick theirs.”
Djokovic is currently featuring in the Paris Masters and entered the Round of 16, by securing a 7-6, 6-4 victory against Maxime Cressy.
