The Brazilian and Al-Hilal footballing superstar Neymar Jr is currently on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus injury suffered four months ago. During his rehabilitation time, the 31-year-old was recently spotted cheering for Santos during their 1-0 win against the Corinthians, sparking rumours of a possible return to his boyhood club.
In the summer of 2023, Neymar Jr signed a two-year contract with Al-Hilal for a whopping sum of money after making a bitter exit from the French champions Paris Saint-Germain, where he had played for six years. Since then, he has struggled during his limited appearances for the Saudi Pro League club, netting only one goal and providing two assists in five matches before a gruesome injury on international duty cut short his 2023-24 club football campaign.
Santos took to their official Instagram account to post a clip of Neymar Jr enjoying his former club play against Corinthians. He also met with the President of Santos, Marcelo Teixeira, and their encounter was brief.
During his chat with ESPN Brazil, Marcelo Teixeria spoke about what his brief meeting with Neymar Jr was like, and said, “The conversation was very brief, but quick conversations are often the most effective. To play here, he needs to recover well. He will continue his experience there and then come.”
Although the Santos President didn’t speak about if or when Neymar Jr could play for his Boyhood club again, the frequent injuries and dwindling form with Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal could prompt him to make his triumphant return back home sooner than expected.
