Before the eagerly anticipated WWE SummerSlam 2023, rumors regarding a potential fight between two of the company's top stars, The Rock and Roman Reigns, have begun to reverberate within the WWE. The anticipation of seeing the two WWE Titans has kept sports fans on the edge of their seats.
The Rock, who had been away from wrestling since 2016, officially announced his retirement in August 2019. However, rumors about The Rock's homecoming have been circulating for years. On the other hand, with WWE currently enjoying a golden age of record-breaking revenues and business, this may be the ideal time for Dwayne Johnson to make his return to the sport.
On the other side, Reigns has ruled the WWE as Universal Champion since winning the title in a triple-threat match against Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt in August 2020. Reigns united his championship with Brock Lesnar's WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38 in the Night Two main event. Reigns received a new championship title after 1,000 days as the champion, although Paul Heyman is still the owner of his two earlier crowns.
Fans with keen eyes have picked up on several potential clues that have been leaked in the run-up to this historic occasion. The People's Elbow imitation attempt by Grayson Waller on a recent edition of SmackDown with Roman Reigns in attendance, as well as their angry Twitter exchange, have definitely drawn attention. The moment's recognition by the commentators has fueled speculation that WWE may finally be embracing the fans' ardent demand for this ideal match.
Along with current Superstars, Reigns has defended his title against legends such as Edge, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and Bryan Danielson. The Tribal Chief wasn't concerned when asked by ESPN First Take whether the Rock might oust him.
Reigns responded to the question calmly by saying, “I don’t see it. That’s what this last year has been. People coming from all over, Brock Lesnar, and John Cena, they come from Hollywood, they come from other sports, Logan Paul. It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m head and shoulders above everyone. It’s not even funny anymore.”

Roman Reigns is justified in feeling assured. Reigns' stint as champion earlier this year surpassed all previous records set since WrestleMania's inception. When Reigns competes against Jey Uso at Summerslam on Saturday, the Undisputed WWE Universal title will be on the line.
Many fans still have hope that Reigns vs. The Rock will take place in their ideal match. Since WrestleMania 39 took place in Hollywood, many expected the match to be the main event of this show. However, Rock later made it clear to WWE that he didn't feel there was enough time to prepare for a match. Even though Dwayne Johnson has not yet committed to WrestleMania 40, some fans still hold out hope that The Rock vs. Reigns will take place there.
