American businessman Elon Musk has taken over as the new ‘Chief Twit’ and the Tesla CEO has started implementing changes straightaway. The first of many changes being implicated by Musk is revamping Twitter Blue, the company’s optional, $4.99 a month subscription that unlocks additional features, into a more expensive subscription that also verifies users.
Reports have emerged that Musk is planning on increasing the subscription charged and those who don’t pay it may lose the ‘blue tick’. Twitter is currently planning to charge $19.99 for the new Twitter Blue subscription. Under the current plan, verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark.
Musk has made it clear to his employees that this change is to be implemented at the earliest. Reports claim that November 7 has been set as the deadline for this project.
With these changes to verification on the cards, many people may lose their blue tick if they don’t abide by the rules. Many Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and others also enjoy these special benefits (with verified accounts). But if they fail to comply with the new rules and regulations that are being brought into place, they might not have verified accounts in the future.
What do people need to do to keep enjoying the benefits?
Elon Musk’s ask is simple, pay the subscription charges to avail the benefits of a verified account, or else lose it. So, the verified accounts on Twitter need to pay $19.99 as the subscription charge to continue availing the benefits.
Notably, the Twitter Blue subscription launched widely almost a year ago as a way to view ad-free articles from some publishers and make other tweaks to the app, such as a different colour home screen icon.
