Andy Murray has withdrawn from this year's Wimbledon singles and will bid his farewell to the All England Club in the doubles alongside older brother Jamie. Murray had surgery 10 days ago on a back issue and was looking to withdraw from the tournament but decided to go ahead. The 37-year-old was due to play Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic on Centre Court on Tuesday.
Ahead of Wimbledon 2024, Murray suffered a painful blow two weeks ago as he was dealing with pain and numbness in his back and right leg and was forced to withdraw from Queen’s. Murray underwent back surgery to remove a spinal cyst and was rushing to recover in time. But now, the 2012 Olympic Gold medalist has pulled out from the singles' event but will continue competing in the men's doubles.

“Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year. As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time,” Murray’s representatives said in a statement.
The Murray brothers haven't played together at the Championships and are slated to face the Australian duo of John Peers and Rinky Hijikata in the first round on July 3. Andy Murray will also be part of the Great Britain squad in the Paris Olympics.
