The players' auction for the Women’s Premier League 2023 was held in Mumbai on Monday (13 Feb). The event started with the WPL logo unveiling while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny dished out a short speech. The main moment for which everyone was waiting finally came when auctioneer Mallika Sagar picked out the first name to be auctioned.

It was none other than India’s star batter Smriti Mandhana. The Team India vice-captain caused an intense bidding war before eventually bagging a massive 3.4 CR. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured the services of the India star. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) roped in Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur for 1.8 CR.
