On Wednesday, October 9, India Women registered their second win of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024, as they defeated Sri Lanka Women by 82 runs. After beginning the campaign on a defeating note against New Zealand and thrashing Pakistan in the second game, India locked horns with Sri Lanka in their third game of the marquee tournament. While Harmanpreet and Co. seemed confident for their game against another neighbouring nation on Wednesday, October 9, Dubai International Stadium, Sri Lanka were in dire need of a win. The match began with Indian skipper Harmanpreet winning the toss and letting her side put the score on the board first.
In what was the rematch of the Asia Cup 2024 final, Women in Blue got off to a fierce start. Both Indian openers went all guns blazing and added several feathers to their hats. The Indians continued to spill their magic in the second innings as well. Sri Lanka lost their first wicket on the second ball into the innings. Just after Vishmi Gunaratne’s dismissal, skipper Chamari Athapaththu was also forced to walk back after scoring just one run off three balls. Renuka Singh picked her second wicket in the form of Harshitha Samarawickrama as the batter returned to pavilion after a seven-ball three.
Asha Shobna and Arundhati Reddy completed their three-wicket hauls while Renuka Singh and Shreyanka Patil picked up two and one wicket, respectively.
