In a massive development, the Chief Executive of the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA), Tom Moffat, has sent a warning to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over issues of non-payment in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The 37-year-old has stated that if the outstanding dues continue to be a problem in the BPL, then he expects the top players to not make themselves available for the tournament in future seasons.

Notably, the Durbar Rajshahi franchise in the BPL 2024-25 season have been in the center of the storm as far as the non-payment to their players, officials, and even the driver, who took the matter into his own hands to get paid by locking the cricket kits inside the team bus. The Bangladesh government has formed a fact-finding committee in regards to the issue, and the Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, met with Durbar Rajshahi owner, Md Shafiq Rahman, to discuss the situation, as per the report from Cricbuzz.

After their discussion took place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium recently, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain held a press conference with BCB President Faruque Ahmed and the BPL governing council member secretary, Najmul Abedin. In front of the media, he spoke about taking legal action against the Durbar Rajshahi franchise in the BPL if they fail to clear the payments in the stipulated period of time.

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain was quoted as saying, “We have formed a fact finding committee and they will find out how those who did not have the ability could come and participate here. I have spoken with the Rajshahi owner and I said that if you fail to pay it we will have to take legal steps. The image of the country was damaged due to one team despite all our efforts and who is responsible for it, our fact finding committee will find it out later, we will take action accordingly.”

Moreover, during the ongoing 2024-25 season of the BPL, Durbar Rajshahi were unable to reach the playoffs after having a poor campaign on the field.
