Two days ahead of the opening clash of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled ‘Shakti’ the roaring mascot of the cash-rich league. BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah revealed the mascot via Twitter post.
In a 30-second video, Shakti can be seen smashing six into all parts of the ground with a fierce zeal in her eyes. "Fast, fierce, and brimming with fire!" She's ready to light up the field, lekin #YehTohBasShuruatHai! "Introducing our mascot #Shakti, the embodiment of the #TATAWPL!" Shah wrote in the caption.
Earlier, BCCI released an exciting theme song for the Women’s Premier League’s inaugural season. The song, titled ‘Yeh toh bas shuruat hain’ is a tribute to the Indian Women cricketers who have overcome numerous obstacles to reach the pinnacle of the sport.
The cash-rich league is all set to kick off on March 4 with the season opener between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants. All the matches will take place in Mumbai and to encourage women spectators on the ground, BCCI has availed free tickets for girls and women.
Five teams – Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, and UP Warriorz – will participate in the league. BCCI has also planned a grand opening ceremony for the league and has enlisted the celebrities like Kiara Advani and AP Dhillon. WPL is the second-largest T20 league after the Indian Premier League. The five teams were worth Rs. 4,669.00 crores and the BCCI received Rs. 951 crores for the media rights.
