On Sunday, December 15, the highly anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction saw 124 players, including 91 Indians and 29 overseas, going under the hammer in Bengaluru. The mini-auction ahead of the WPL 2025 season had a maximum of 19 slots open for the five teams to fill, including four players each for defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, and Delhi Capitals, while UP Warriorz needed to sign only three players.
Simran Shaikh became the highest paid player in the WPL 2025 auction, getting signed by Gujarat Giants for a whopping INR 1.90 Crore, while they also picked up West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin for INR 1.70 Crore. The biggest surprise was how Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals had an intense bidding war for 16-year-old left-handed batter G Kamalini before the inaugural champions secured her services for an INR 1.60 Crore contract.
Out of the 19 players signed by the WPL teams after spending INR 9.05 Crore collectively ahead of the 2025 auction, only five were overseas players, including names like Deandra Dottin, Sarah Bryce, Alana King, Danielle Gibson, and Nadine de Klerk. Meanwhile, some of the big players who missed out on a deal in the WPL 2025 had names like Heather Knight, Lauren Bell, Lizelle Lee, Sneh Rana, Tejas Hasabnis, and Poonam Yadav, among others.
