On Sunday, December 15, during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 auction, Mumbai Indians broke the bank to sign 16-year-old G Kamalini for a whopping INR 1.60 Crore contract. G Kamalini, who bats left-handed, came into the WPL auction with a base price of INR 10 Lakh only, but after an intense bidding war between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, the inaugural champions managed to secure her services for the 2025 season of the league.

Born in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, G Kamalini, who is a part of Super Kings Academy in Chennai, came into the radar of the WPL teams due to her ability to hit big strokes at such a young age. She has already played a key role in helping Tamil Nadu win the U19 domestic tournament in India earlier this year with 311 runs in just eight matches at a very high strike-rate, which impressed one and all in the cricketing circles.

G Kamalini had scored 79 runs in the final of the U19 Tri-series for India B against South Africa, followed by a quick-fire 44 in a low-scoring run chase for India against Pakistan in the U19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup tournament earlier today. With that, she is expected to be a part of India’s U19 Women’s T20 World Cup squad next year, raising her stature further as a cricketer during her teenage years.
