Avinash Sable, India’s ace steeplechaser, made it to the finals of the Diamond League 2023 after an impressive show in the Xiamen Diamond League 2023 on Saturday, September 2. Sable ranked fourth in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event with a time of 8:16:27 securing a spot in the finals in Eugene.
Sable was nearly six seconds quicker than his time set during qualifying for the World Championships in Budapest last month, where he failed to make the cut for the final. Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco finished first with a timing of 8:10.31 and Samuel Firewu of Ethiopia finished a close second with a timing of 8:11.29.
Avinash Sable qualified after placing sixth in the Diamond League series with a total of 11 points earned from four races. The 2023 Diamond League series leader in points with a total of 32 was Soufiane El Bakkali.
Praveen Chithravel and Abdulla Aboobacker had a disappointing outing as they finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the men’s triple jump. Chithravel finished with 16.42 m, and Abdulla Aboobacker finished with 16.25m. Italian Andy Diaz Hernandez finished first with a best of 17.43, while Hugues Fabrice Zango finished second with 17.22 m.
