Former India head coach Ravi Shastri expressed his concern about KL Rahul being included in the Asia Cup squad. He said that it would be too much for a player who did not play competitive cricket for approximately four months. Notably, both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The star Indian cricketers are expected to make a comeback in the forthcoming mega-continental tournament.
Shastri was a part of the Star Sports panel where he cast doubts over Rahul’s inclusion in the squad. The former India great said, “When you are talking of a player who has not played and is recovering from injury. To think of him in the playing eleven of Asia Cup, you are asking little too much of the player himself."
The 61-year-old added, “And then you are talking keeping when the guy has come from a knee injury, the range of movement, things like (that). That is a no, no straight.”
Notably, the Indian squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 is likely to be announced on August 20. According to reports by the Times of India, the Indian squad for the upcoming mega-continental tournament will be announced on Sunday, August 20.
