Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Aman Sehrawat for winning bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. Notably, Sehrawat became the youngest Indian to win a medal at the Olympics as he clinched bronze medal in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling in the Summer Games 2024. Sehrawat defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz in the bronze medal match after he went down to Rio 2016 silver medallist Rei Higuchi of Japan.
PM Modi spoke to Aman and congratulated him while wishing for his bright future. Not only this, but he also said that his life has been an inspiration to his fellow countrymen. PM Modi acknowledged how Sehrawat battled all the odds, including the death of his parents at the age of 11.
The Indian PM told Aman over a phone call, “You made the Chhatrasal Stadium your home. You are the youngest athlete to win an Olympic medal for India. You have such a long way ahead of you, you will fill this country with happiness. Your life is an inspiration to your fellow countrymen.” Aman replied and said, “I’ll work hard to win gold at the 2028 Olympics.”
It is to be noted that at the age of 21 years and 24 days, Aman bettered PV Sindhu’s record of 21 years, one month and 14 days, when she won the silver medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Notably, Aman’s was the first medal in wrestling at Paris 2024 and overall sixth medal at the edition.
