Croatia and Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric penned down a heart-touching message for his Spanish club-mate Toni Kroos following his decision to put curtains on his career. Germany’s veteran mid-fielder is set to play his farewell game against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League final on June 1 at Wembley.
The duo has been a reckoning force in the midfield for the Spanish club since Kroos joined in 2014. In their decade-long partnership at Santiago Bernabeu, they have lifted 21 trophies together with one last hurrah in the UCL waiting for the majestic duo.
Taking to Instagram, Modric shared a picture of him with Kroos and captioned it with a heartfelt message. He wrote, “Querido (Dear) Toni, having a hard time writing these words. The football world is sad because a historic footballer is leaving, and I admit you, I am also very sad. Man, you are a legend of this sport and a legend of Real Madrid.”
Adding further, he mentioned, “I really enjoyed playing by your side, it’s truly been an honor to share Real Madrid’s center-field with you. You have qualities that make you a unique and special footballer, and there will never be another Toni Kroos. Unforgettable European nights, titles, the magic of the Bernabeu…we will never forget this golden time in the club of our lives.”
Modric, who has played a record 325 games for Real Madrid with Toni Kroos by his side in the midfield, concluded the message with a tribute to him stating their mutual dream of conquering the 15th Champions League for Real Madrid in Wembley. “You have achieved everything but you still have one left. Together for the 15. I will miss you, my friend. Toni Kroos,” he concluded.
