Yuki Bhambri has emerged as India’s number 1 doubles player after defeating his compatriot Rohan Bopanna at the 2025 Miami Open. Allying with Portugal’s Nuno Borges, Bhambri got the better of Bopanna and Croatia’s Ivan Dodig with the figures of 4-6, 6-3 (10-7) on March 21. The sensational triumph promoted Bhambri to the 29th spot in the Live ATP Double Rankings. He dethroned Bopanna to become the top player of the sub-continent nation. Bopanna held the top position for the first time on October 7, 2019 but with this loss, he is now relegated to the 43rd position in ATP Double Rankings.

Veteran tennis star Bopanna was playing as the Miami Masters champion as he was the winner of the 2024 title along with Australia’s Matthew Ebden. With the win, Bopanna became the oldest player to win the Masters title. He also owned the feat of becoming the oldest first-time World No.1 in doubles after winning the 2024 Australian Open with Ebden. Bopanna parted ways with Ebden in November 2024. Despite knowing the 45-year-old's stature, Bhambri held his nerves and produced his best along with Borges to taste success in the contest.

Bhambri’s journey in doubles is intriguing as he achieved some scintillating success with six different partners. His potential to acclimate with different partners has played a vital role in his success in business.

Bhambri has partnered with Ivan Dodig, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Matwé Middelkoop, Alexei Popyrin, André Göransson, and Borges thus far. Along with Popyrin, Bhambri won the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championships after beating the pair of Finland’s Harri Heliovaara and Britain’s Henry Patten with 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 in the final of the tournament.
