Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal chose Chennai Super Kings as the IPL team he would love to play for in the tournament if not Royal Challengers Bangalore. In postponed IPL 2021, Chahal picked up four wickets in seven matches for Virat Kohli-led RCB. In the last few months, Chahal has not been in the best of form for both team India and his IPL franchise. But throughout his career for RCB, he has been the go-to man for Kohli in crunch situations. In his IPL career, Chahal has only played for two IPL franchises, which are Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
In an interview with CricTracker, Chahal was asked which IPL team he would like to play for, if not RCB. When asked about which other franchise he sees himself playing for, Chahal picked the name of Chennai Super Kings. Looking at the pitch conditions at Chepauk which assist spinners, it was not a surprise that Chahal chose the MS Dhoni-led team to play for.
I would’ve pulled out if IPL 2021 wasn’t suspended: Yuzvendra Chahal
Earlier, Yuzvendra Chahal had revealed that he was already planning to take a break from IPL 2021 before the tournament was suspended. While he was playing IPL, both his parents tested positive for COVID-19. His mother was home quarantined and his father was admitted to hospital.
“I was planning to take a break from the IPL when I heard the news of my parents getting infected. It was difficult to focus on the game while your parents were alone at home. They tested positive on May 3, and a couple of days later, the tournament got postponed,” Chahal had said.
Chahal started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2011 and had to wait till 2013 to make his debut for the franchise. He only played one game in the 2013 season before being dropped into the players' pool at the next auction. Chahal was then picked up by RCB ahead of the 2014 season and the 30-year-old has since been a mainstay in the team. Chahal has played a total of 106 matches, taking 125 wickets at an average of 23.30. He also has a decent economy rate of 7.70.
