Team India on Monday, August 21 announced its 17-member squad for the continental tournament, set to begin from August 30 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. While the side the return of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav was the lone spinner to secure a place in the 17-member side.

Another notable miss from the 17-member squad was Yuzvendra Chahal. The 33-year-old who first missed the 2021 T20 World Cup, followed by not getting a single game in the 2022 T20 World Cup last year, missed a place in the 17-member side also. After this snub from the squad for the 50-over Asia Cup, the leg-spinner took to social media to break his silence.

The leg-spinner shared a cryptic post after getting dropped from the side. The 33-year-old’s tweet had only emojis which was a sunrise looking towards a bright sunshine.

It seemed that he took inspiration from skipper Rohit Sharma as he had shared a similar post back in 2018 after he was dropped from India squad.

The Team India Chief Selector, who announced the squad for the continental tournament further clarified on not naming Chahal in the squad. He said that sometimes it is the balance that has to be looked into adding, “Kuldeep has been really good. Axar Patel has done well, but to fit two wrist spinners was difficult, so Chahal had to miss out.”

Skipper Rohit Sharma also spoke of the same and he quoted, “We thought of Ashwin and Washi (Washington Sundar). But as you can see Chahal missed out, because we can only pick 17. And we cannot drop a seamer, seamers will be crucial in the next two months.” He also clarified that “doors are not closed for anyone” before moving on to the next question.
