The US Open has always seen some remarkable consistency from the biggest names in tennis. Reaching a Grand Slam final is difficult enough but doing it year after year requires an incredible level of consistency. These players have done well on hard courts and managed to go deep in the tournament.

Several legends have made this a habit of going to the Final multiple times in this tournament over the years. From Ivan Lendl’s run of eight straight finals to Novak Djokovic’s record 10 appearances, these five players have reached the US Open final more times than anyone else in the Open Era.

5 Players With Most US Open Final Appearances

1. Novak Djokovic – 10 finals

Djokovic holds the record of most Finals at US open and is at the top of the list with 10 finals. His first Final came in 2007 which ended in a loss to Roger Federer. It took him another four years to claim the title when he beat Rafael Nadal in 2011. He has won it four times in total with the most recent in 2023 against Daniil Medvedev. That one carried a bit of extra meaning after Medvedev had beaten him in the 2021 final and stopped him from completing a calendar-year Grand Slam.

2. Pete Sampras – 8 finals

Sampras reached eight US Open finals between 1990 and 2002 and won five titles. His first came in 1990 against Andre Agassi. He also won in 1993, 1995, 1996 and 2002. That last one stands out for an obvious reason as it was the final match of his professional career. He beat Agassi again in the championship match and then retired from the game

3. Ivan Lendl – 8 finals

Lendl’s record at the US Open is unique on this list. He made the final for eight years in a row from 1982 through 1989. He lost the first two before winning three straight titles from 1985 to 1987. Then he reached the final again in 1988 and 1989 where he lost to Mats Wilander and Boris Becker. Eight consecutive finals is still one of the most impressive runs the tournament has seen.

4. Jimmy Connors –  7 finals

Connors has made seven US Open finals and won five of them. His first title came in 1974 when he beat Ken Rosewall. He won four more titles in 1976, 1978, 1982 and 1983. Even later in his career he kept returning to the US Open and was doing well at a high level. His 98 match wins at the US Open remain the most by any man in the Open Era. He is fourth on the list of most appearances.

5. Roger Federer – 7 finals

Roger Federer also reached seven finals and his streak from 2004 to 2008 was dominant. He won the title five years in a row and beat a different opponent each time. His run of consecutive finals ended in 2009, but he made one more US Open Final match in 2015. That turned out to be his last Final at this tournament with Djokovic beating him in four sets. Federer finished with five US Open titles and is equal with Connors and Sampras for the most in the Open Era.
