Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, both are set to make their India debut against England in 2nd T20I on Sunday, March 14. The hotly debated topic of Suryakumar Yadav's debut was reportedly rested after Team India skipper Virat Kohli confirmed in the pre-match press conference that KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will open the India innings. However, Rohit Sharma was rested ahead of the second T20I, Virat Kohli stated during the toss.
After 10 years of toil in the domestic circuit and numerous highs and lows, Suryakumar Yadav has finally broken the Team India door open with his consistent performances. SKY has scored over 420 runs in the last three IPL editions with a strike-rate of over 130. The Indian think tank is looking at him as a middle-order option, who can accelerate at will and can also handle the finishing responsibilities. With India planning to finalise their 2021 T20 World Cup squad in the next couple of months, SKY’s performances will be closely watched by the selectors. In all likelihood, Yadav is likely to take the No.5 position against England to solidify the middle-order. With a brilliant technique and his effortless ability to regularly play scoops and ramp shots, Yadav can be the solution to India's middle-order problems, which has plagued India since MS Dhoni's departure.
Rohit Sharma's advice to Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan
Earlier, Rohit Sharma advised his Mumbai Indians teammates Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan to play freely in their debut series against England and not put too much pressure on themselves. In the press conference before the five-match T20I series, Rohit Sharma said, "I don't want them (Surya and Ishan) to be thinking about anything. That's how they bring their best performances out. Watching them closely for a few years now, I have realised it is important for them to come and be a part of this wonderful team. I just want them to have fun and understand what this team has been all about."
