Speaking of his illustrious two-decade long career, Kamal has won seven gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and two bronze medals in the Asian Games.

The veteran table tennis player Sharath Kamal, who also is a two-time Commonwealth Games champion and a Khel Ratna awardee expressed himself after being named India’s flagbearer at the Olympics. In conversation with the PTI, Kamal said, “From not even sure of Olympic berth to playing the way I did in Singapore last week, jumping 54 spots in the rankings to being named India’s flag bearer.”
Kamal and other award winners will receive their awards from the President at a specially organised function at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The medal tally of Sharath Kamal at CWG 2022 is more than many nations like Pakistan, Samoa, Ghana, Bermuda, Cameroon and others.
World champion Nikhat Zareen claimed gold medal in the women’s 50kg flyweight at the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Sharath Kamal will now face Liam Pitchford in the men’s singles table tennis final on Sunday.
The Indian duo took a lead early on but eventually lost the match.
