The T20 World Cup 2024 is setting up to be one of the highest scoring tournaments in history with improved power hitting standards in the build-up to it. Whether it was franchise or international cricket, the scoring charts have gone through the roof in T20s in the last couple of years, with the batters playing fearless cricket right throughout an innings.
In this article, SportsTiger looks at five top contenders to score most runs at T20 World Cup 2024.
Babar Azam
The captain of Pakistan, Babar Azam, has been one of the most consistent batters in the T20I format since making his debut in 2016, finding himself in second place in the all-time run scoring charts. After getting the responsibility of captaining Pakistan in T20Is again, the 29-year-old showcased good batting form against New Zealand at home, and he will be looking to replicate his run-scoring exploits in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Reeza Hendricks
Reeza Hendricks is coming off an impressive domestic T20 season last month for the Highveld Lions in South Africa, and he followed it up with 87 against West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, during the first of three T20I matches in the series a week ago. The 34-year-old has a lot of experience of playing limited-overs cricket for South Africa without going to the next level just like some of his teammates, which he will be looking to put that right in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Jos Buttler
Jos Buttler, who captained England to their second T20 World Cup title a couple of years ago, will be looking to lead from the front with the bat, to help his team become the first in history to win the coveted trophy in back-to-back editions. The 33-year-old had a decent campaign for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024, following which he scored 84 for England in the second T20I of the four-match series against Pakistan in Birmingham a few days ago, proving his form ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.

David Warner
David Warner is in the top 10 of the all-time run scoring chart in the T20I format in spite of his dwindling returns in the format in the last couple of years. In the 2024 edition of the IPL with the Delhi Capitals, he was suffering with a fitness issue, but the rest could help bring his A-game for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024, to become the top run scorer in the tournament.

Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has been the top run scorer in the T20 World Cup two times, achieving the big feat in the last edition of the tournament in 2022. In the build-up to the T20 World Cup 2024, the 35-year-old was in scintillating form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL, winning the Orange cap for scoring most runs in the tournament, and he will be doing everything it takes to take this form to the USA and the Caribbean next month.
