A key BCCI review meeting will take place in Mumbai on Thursday with Indian cricket’s top decision-makers set to discuss recent results and make plans for the road ahead. India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill will attend in person, and is expected to take the discussions seriously and looking to play an active role in planning future assignments while offering feedback on the just-concluded series. The meeting brings together head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and president Mithun Manhas. T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer has also joined the meeting in person. The meeting was originally planned after the white-ball tours of Ireland and England but was delayed due to the two-Test series in Sri Lanka.


Injury management will be another major talking point in the BCCI review meeting as per reports. Some of the key players including Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Hardik Pandya and others have faced fitness concerns in recent months. This has raised questions about communication between the team management and the Centre of Excellence. The Indian side lost the T20I series in Ireland 2-0 and then suffered a 4-0 thrashing in England, with the Nottingham defeat standing out as the biggest of the tour. Under Gill’s leadership, India lost the ODI series in England 2-1 and they could not win the second Test in Sri Lanka despite dominating most of the match. These results will also come under the review in the BCCI meeting.

India Face Tough Challenge to WTC Final With 7 Tests Remaining

India are currently placed fifth in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 standings. After completing 11 matches, they have 5 wins, 4 losses and 2 draws, accumulating 68 points for a points percentage (PCT) of 51.52%. Australia leads the WTC table  with approximately 80%, followed by South Africa (75%) and New Zealand  (72.22%). Bangladesh are just ahead of India in fourth place with 55.56%

India have seven Tests remaining in this cycle. Their next series is a two match Test series against New Zealand. The first Test is scheduled for 19th November at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, followed by the second from 27 November at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. After that series, India will host Australia for a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series that will conclude their WTC campaign.

– 1st Test: 21–25 January 2027, Nagpur  

– 2nd Test: 29 January–2 February 2027, Chennai  

– 3rd Test: 11–15 February 2027, Guwahati  

– 4th Test: 19–23 February 2027, Ranchi  

– 5th Test: 27 February–3 March 2027, Ahmedabad.

If India manage to win all their remaining Test matches they would reach 70% and have a chance to qualify for the Final. If they lose one more Test, their qualification for the 2027 WTC final will depend on how the teams currently above them perform in their remaining fixtures.
