The ICC World Test Championship final is finally underway at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton. While the entire Day 1 of the summit clash was completely washed out, the weather remained considerably better on Day 2 and the play started at a scheduled time. The Kiwis won the toss and opted to field first and Indian openers did well to play the new ball, not only playing out overs but also scoring runs at a brisk rate.

Although the Indian openers did well to play the new ball bowlers Tim Southee and Trent Boult, it was Kyle Jamieson who caused a lot of problems for the duo of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. Eventually, Jamieson broke through for the Kiwis by dismissing the Hitman for 34. But even before this incident, it was a short pitch ball from Jamieson which hit Gill on the helmet.

Although Shubman was walking out of his crease to adapt to the swinging conditions in England, Jamieson spotted it and banged the fifth ball of the 17th over short, which surprised Shubman and he couldn’t get out of its way or put bat to ball. The physio had to come in to check for a concussion but luckily for Team India Shubman looked good.

While India have opted for two spinners in their XI, the Kiwis have an entire pacer-studded attack as they have neither gone ahead with Ajaz Patel nor have they selected Mitchell Santner.
