Tennis star Venus Williams sustained a nasty blow on Day 1 of the grass court Grand Slam event Wimbledon 2023. The American tennis player and former World No. 1 sustained an early blow as she slipped while playing against Elina Svitolina in the opening round of the competition.
The Wimbledon 2023, which kick started on Monday, July 3 suffered a knee injury as she slipped at the net while attempting a backhand volley. The 43-year-old screamed in pain after tweaking her bandaged right knee, with the chair umpire walking out to check on her. Soon afterwards, Williams managed to play through her injury including two medical breaks, eventually falling 6-4, 6-3.

The highly decorated tennis star later opened up on her injury. “I’m not sure what I’ve done. I’m going to have to investigate it tomorrow. It’s late today. But it was quite painful,” Williams said. “Grass is inherently going to be slippery; you’re going to fall at some point. It was just bad luck for me. I started the match perfectly. I was literally killing it. And then I got killed by the grass,” she concluded.

Venus Williams marked the historic day as he made her 24 th draw appearance, surpassing Martina Navratilova (23) for most in the Open Era (since 1968).
