Kargil Vijay Diwas is commemorated on 26th July every year to mark India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war. Notably, Indian forces displayed remarkable courage by forcing out Pakistan’s army from the Kargil district in Ladakh on 26th July in 1999. The day is observed to honor the fallen War Heroes and recall the contribution of martyrs.
The nation is observing the 23rd anniversary of the Indian armed forces’ successful operation in the Kargil sector of Kashmir against the Pakistan army and militants in what is known as ‘Operation Vijay.’ The Pakistan army invaded in the Indian side of the Line of Control (LOC) under Operation Badr in 1999. Operation Vijay saw more than 2,00,000 Indian troops marching at the top of the mountain peak and displacing the enemies by recapturing all the previously lost posts and forcing the Pakistan troops to retreat back home.
Cricket fraternity too joined others and shared messages extending their tribute to fallen heroes. Cricketers like Rishabh Pant, Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Mithali Raj and others took to Twitter to pay tributes to the martyrs.
