Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders are seemingly looking for a replacement in case of Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s absence from the team. Rahman, who was bought by the franchise for a sum of INR 2 crore might not be available for the forthcoming season of the tournament. Notably, the Afghanistan Cricket Board sanctioned Rahman, along with Fazalhaq Farooqi and Neveen ul Haq for their intention to be released from the central contract.

In case Rahman is unavailable for the forthcoming season of the cash-rich league due to uncertainty of his future, the two-time IPL champions would need to look for a replacement for them. Here are three names that can replace the Afghan mystery bowler in the next season.
Adil Rashid
The England spinner was released by his previous IPL franchise, SunRisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2024 auction and remained unsold. Rashid comes with a vast experience and it will surely help the Kolkata side. Not only will he be a suitable replacement for Rahman, but young names like Suyash Sharma will also get to learn a lot from him.
The 35-year-old doesn’t have an exceptional IPL record, with only two wickets in three matches under his name. However, he can be a good replacement for the 22-year-old.

Tabraiz Shamsi
Another potential replacement for Rahman in the KKR squad is South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi. The Proteas bowler has emerged as one of the most lethal bowlers in the T20 format and has been ranked as the number 1 T20I bowler once. Shamsi picked three wickets in five IPL matches he played so far, but he is a wicket-taker in international cricket. Shamsi can be a decent replacement in Rahman’s place for the KKR squad.

Ish Sodhi
New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi was a part of the Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019 and was later hired as a liaison officer by the Royals. Sodhi registered himself for the IPL 2024 auction but failed to find himself a bid. The Kiwi spinner set his base price at INR 75 lakh, but unfortunately, no team showed any interest in signing him. Sodhi played 8 matches in his IPL career and he took 9 wickets, with an average of 22.44, conceding 6.69 runs per over with the best individual figure of 26/3. The 31-year-old delivered some notable performances for his side in international cricket and can replace the Afghan easily.
