Team India is gearing up to play T20 World Cup 2022 opener against Pakistan on October 23 at Melbourne Cricket Stadium in Melbourne. While India’s batting look formidable with the presence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, their bowling seems to be a major concern. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Team India will heavily rely on the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel and experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar to come up with their A game.
After a lacklustre performance in Asia Cup 2022, Indian bowlers will hope to better their performance in the upcoming ICC tournament. When veteran off-spinner R Ashwin was asked about India’s bowling concern and how the team is planning to overcome it, the spinner backed the Indian bowlers by comparing the field dimensions of India and Australia.
After Team India clinched its first warm-up game against Western Australia XI by 13 runs, Ashwin said, “Look we can get caught up with what happens in T20 games and in bilateral series back at home.” The veteran off-spinner further said that boundaries in India are close to the 30-yard circle in India.
“It’s only fair to say that bowlers are getting hit around the park, but we also need to understand the boundaries are very close to the 30-yard circle in India. When we come to Australia, the boundaries are far bigger, gives the bowlers a bit of license to work with.”
The 36-year-old further mentioned that understanding the Australian conditions and taking calculative risks will be a key factor heading into the T20 World Cup.
“It’s also very important to understand these conditions, the lengths you have to bowl and be brave enough to take those 50-50 options in these places. It’s a completely new experience, just start fresh, start the book completely new,” added Ashwin.
In the practice game against Western Australia, Arshdeep Singh scaled three wickets in the game while giving away just 6 runs in the 3 overs. Meanwhile, veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar also picked two wickets conceding 26 runs.
