Shreyas Iyer has taken the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction by storm, as expected, as he kicked off a dramatic bidding war for him in Bengaluru on Saturday. While his former team Delhi Capitals tried to get him back, the new franchise Gujarat Titans also showed interest in securing the services of the talented batsman.
However, it was clear that two teams – RCB and KKR – who were in search of a captain might bid heavily for him and it was Kolkata Knight Riders who showed the aggressive approach as they eventually won the bidding war, securing the services of Shreyas Iyer for a mega sum of INR 12.25 Cr.

The fans went berserk on social media as they were quite sure that Shreyas is going to be the new captain of KKR. While DC fans said their heartbreaking goodbye to Shreyas, the KKR fans welcomed another Iyer (after Venkatesh) to their squad for IPL 2022.
KKR go all out to get Shreyas Iyer for 12.25C. Surely, KKR's long term captain! #IPLAuction

Meanwhile, KKR also secured the signing of Pat Cummins for INR 7.25 Crore, leaving them with very little purse for remaining auction in Bengaluru. It will be interesting to see how things unfold for them going ahead.
