The Super 12 group stage of T20 World Cup 2022 is set to kick off on 22 October with a match between Australia and New Zealand. India and Pakistan who are placed in Group 2 will open their campaign by playing against each other on 23 October at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Both teams are sweating it hard in the nets to get the better of the opposition. Pakistan players also took an intense net session on Friday.
But something unfortunate happened that left everyone shocked, especially Mohammad Nawaz. The all-rounder who was practicing at full gas for the mega clash on Sunday, accidentally hit his teammate Shan Masood on the neck. Nawaz’s one of the shots directly hit Masood and the Pakistan player fell to the ground immediately.
Nawaz also could not believe what happened. He was left distraught perhaps cursing himself why did he play that shot. The all-rounder was seen on his knees and his hands on his head while other Pakistan players attended Masood. Nawaz finally gathered the courage to walk up to his teammate and check on him.

According to reports, Masood was lying down on the ground for 5-7 minutes after being hit. He was then taken to the hospital for scans. There has been no official word from PCB on the same but a statement is expected soon. Probably, after Masood’s scan results are out.
This comes as a major blow for Pakistan ahead of their marquee clash against India as Masood was expected to feature in the playing XI. Nevertheless, Pakistan have a like-for-like replacement in Fakhar Zaman in case Masood fails to recover in time.
With Masood now doubtful for T20 World Cup 2022, it would be interesting to see if Pakistan Cricket Board would consider picking veteran Shoaib Malik in the squad.
