Major League Soccer club Orlando City have won their maiden US Open Cup title after defeating Sacramento Republic 3-0 in the finals on Wednesday. While Facundo Torres scored two goals, winger Benji Michel scored the final goal in the stoppage time and sealed the victory for the Florida-based club.
Orlando City beat New York Red Bulls 5-0 in the US Open Cup semifinals to enter the final, where they faced USL club Sacramento Republic at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando.
After the end of the 90 minutes of the regulation time, eight minutes stoppage time was added and the 24-year-old Orlando winger, Benji Michel scored the third goal for his team and secured the title. After his goal, Benji celebrated as Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry’s NBA 2021-22 winning ‘Night-Night’ celebration.

For Orlando City, Facundo Torres broke the deadlock and scored the first goal in the 75th minute before his second goal in the 80th minute with a penalty kick and consolidated Orlando’s chances to win its first title since joining the MLS in 2015.
Sacramento defeated two MLS teams, San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy to reach the final and could become the first lower-division team since 1999 to win the US Open Cup had they defeated Orlando City.
