Virat Kohli received a standing ovation and a huge round of applause from the crowd when he walked out in the stadium on Friday on his 100th Test match. Kohli came to bat after India lost its second wicket in the form of Mayank Agarwal. Earlier, Kohli was bestowed with a special baggy cap by Indian head coach Rahul Dravid before the start of Day 1.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal opened India’s innings and started well but not for too long. In the 10th over of the game, Sharma departed after scoring 33 off 49. Both the openers added 52-runs on board before the team suffered the first blow in Rohit Sharma. While Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari tried to steady the team’s innings, Lasith Embuldeniya provided yet another breakthrough by dismissing Mayank Agarwal in the 19th over of the game. However, Agarwal’s dismissal brought the moment everyone was waiting for, and as Virat Kohli walked out in the park, the crowd went berserk and gave the man a standing ovation on his 100th Test match.

Earlier, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid felicitated star batter and presented him with a special memento for his 100th Test ahead of Day 1 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka. Kohli was accompanied by his wife Anushka as he achieved the rare feat. While fascinating Kohli, Dravid said that it’s a well-deserved and well-earned milestone for Indian batter and wished Kohli to “double it up.”
