Bangalore vs Hyderabad, Match 52

Series:

IPL 2021

BLR
137/6 (20)
HYD
141/7 (20)

Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 4 runs.

What a superb finish in the end by the Orange Army. They managed to defend a total of 141 against the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. It was a collective team effort with captain Kane Williamson leading from the front by scoring some valuable runs and running Glenn Maxwell out which proved to be the turning point in the game.

As far as Bangalore's chances to finish in the top 2, it will only be possible if Chennai lose their next game against Punjab by a huge margin of over 100 runs and then Virat Kohli's Men win their next game against Delhi by almost the same margin. Well, this looks tough but cricket is a funny game isn't it?

Kane Williamson: "It's been a tough season for us. Really good to see small improvements and adjustments of every individual in the side. I was trying to maximize in the powerplay but it was quite challenging out there but we knew that if we stay on the wicket then we would definitely gain something in the end. Nice to dismiss Maxwell and it was incredible the way we closed the match in the end. He (Umran Malik) certainly is special! It's a special moment for him as well and he is very competitive. He has been a very valuable addition to the side. He has lot of mates in the team and now he would be busy in replying to text messages that he has been getting. Overall, we want to keep learning and come back even better in the next game."

Most Valuable Asset of the match: Daniel Christian

Let's crack it Sixes award: Glenn Maxwell

Super Striker of the match: Glenn Maxwell

Virat Kohli: "The intent had to be to finish the game as soon as possible as we didn't want to stretch it till last. We pulled things back nicely and Maxi (Maxwell) was in his zone. it's a game of small margin. We were very good in the first half with the ball. Shabaz played a crucial knock and pulled us back. Yuzi is bowling well, looks like he has worked very hard on his bowling and it is very good for the side. He has been magnificent with the ball. This tournament throws a talent every year, good to see someone bowl 150 clicks. it is good for Indian cricket (On Umran Malik). We were quite positive but this is T20 cricket and we cannot win all the games. Good to qualify for the playoff as there were little hiccups in the journey but we carried on."
