Ahead of the IPL 2025Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill recently spoke about the obsession of teams to get near the milestone of 300 runs in a 20-over game. The 25-year-old also said that GT’s aim is not to score 300 runs but to play according to the situation. Gill said that he doesn’t want to give his team a pressure of scoring 250 runs in every game.

There were several games during the last season of IPL in 2024 where the teams smashed over 250 to 260 runs. The record for the highest IPL total was also broken several times in that season with Sunrisers Hyderabad reaching at the top list of the list by posting a mammoth 287/3 against RCB last year. “Firstly, I don’t think that as a team we are trying to chase a total of 300. That’s not our aim," Gill said during GT’s press conference on Wednesday.

“We want to play the kind of cricket where we will assess what the condition is and what the situation is. If the wicket or the situation allows us to make 240, 250, or 260 runs, then we are not saying no to that. But there might be a situation where 150 or 160 would be an ideal total on specific wickets," Gill further said.

A great team adapts best to suitable conditions: Shubman Gill

Speaking further, Shubman Gill also said how Gujarat Titans will adapt to the conditions and play according to the situation of the game. GT will beging their IPL 2025 campaign with a match against Punjab Kings at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 25.

"And hence, I feel as a team, if you are only looking to play one wicket, then you are not adapting to things how you should. The hallmark of a great team is that it adapts best to the suitable conditions and the challenges that are coming up," Gill said.
