With the 2024 Paris Olympics in six months’ time, India’s first individual gold medallist at the Olympic Games, Abhinav Bindra has been named as a torch bearer. The globally acclaimed games, the Olympic will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.

The 41-year-old Olympic athlete, who clinched the gold in men’s 10m air rifle at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, will be part of the torch relay, which will be held from April 16 to July 26. The Indian athlete took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm this update as he captioned the post, “Excited to share that I’ll be a torch bearer for the @paris2024 Olympic Games, a beacon of peace and perseverance across the globe. This flame represents our collective spirit and the power of dreams. A great privilege and honour!”

Speaking more of the torch relay, the journey will commence in France on May 8, 2024 with the flame reaching Marseille after 68 days of travel.  In the 68 days span, the torch relay will cover around 65 territories including five overseas territories. It will moreover involve 10,000 torch bearers, including Bindra.
