The Indian archery team for the World Archery Championships 2023, which will be held in Berlin, Germany from July 31 to August 6, has been announced. The 12-member squad consists of eight compound archers and four recurve archers, and features many new faces who have impressed in recent tournaments.


In the compound division, the experienced duo of Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam will lead the charge for India. They will be joined by Prathamesh Jawkar and Ojas Deotale in the men's team, and Aditi Gopichand Swami and Parneet Kaur in the women's team. 


Ojas Detale and Jyoti Vennam won gold at the World Cup stage one in Antalya in the mixed teams' event and followed it up with another gold in Shanghai as they beat favorites North Korea in the finals in the recurve division. 


India will field a young and talented team, comprising Tushar Shelke, Mrinal Chauhan, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Ankita Bhakat. They will compete in the individual and team events, as well as the mixed team event with Shelke and Bhakat as partners. The recurve archers have also shown promise in recent events, as they clinched a bronze medal in the men's team event at the Archery World Cup 2023 Stage 3 in Medellin. They beat China in a thrilling shoot-off to secure their first World Cup medal since 2014.

India finished with only three silver medals in the last edition held in 2021 with recurve archers failing to win a medal.
