A week after FIFA imposed a ban on All India Football Federation citing 'third party intervention' and stripping India's right to host the under-17 Women's football World Cup, the General Secretary of AIFF has requested the sports' governing body in the world to 'reconsider' its decision. The Supreme Court of India on Monday dissolved the Committee of Administrators (CoA) and instructed to revise AIFF constitution in accordance with FIFA.
The apex court further ordered AIFF to hold an election within one week and ordered the administration led by the Secretary General of AIFF to look into the day-to-day matters of the AIFF. In its order, SC stated that the executive committee of AIFF shall consists of 23 members of which 17 including the treasurer to be elected by the electoral college of 36, consisting six members from the list eminent player.
A day later, AIFF Secretary General has provided an update of the Supreme Court's order to FIFA Secretary General by stating that the direction regarding the full repeal of the CoA mandate and subsequently AIFF has taken full charge of the body's daily affairs.
"It is with immense pleasure we inform you that the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India took up our matter and I am pleased to inform you that order has been passed to repeal CoA's full mandate and full charge of sports in India has been handed over to the AIFF," read the letter.
The letter further requested FIFA and Bureau to reconsider their decision of imposing ban on AIFF. "Since the condition in your letter of the suspension stand satisfied, we request that order to that effect be passed for AIFF to continue with the smooth proceedings of football in India," the letter further read.
The Centre on Monday urged the Supreme Court to end the tenure of the Committee of Administrators with immediate effect and direct the AFFI to look after day-to-day affairs of the sports in India.
Appearing for the Centre in front of the SC bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and A.S. Bopanna Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta claimed that FIFA's decision to ban AIFF will have a disastrous affects in the country as it will hamper the future of many footballers in the country and will also restrict the nation from hosting highly-anticipated FIFA's U-17 Women's World Cup.
