India’s centre-back Anwar Ali suffered a serious injury during the Mohun Bagan Super Giants and Bashundhara Kings AFC Cup clash on October 24, Tuesday. The AFC clash that took place at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar took a worrying turn as the young footballer was compelled to leave the field on a stretcher. Ali suffered a blow on his ankle after he clashed with an opposition player and suffered the injury.
The incident took place in the 92nd minute of the game, and Ali was provided immediate medical attention and was later substituted. After the game, the footballer was spotted with bandages on his right ankle and was in visible pain. The Mohun Bagan manager Juan Ferrando, though, didn’t explain the extent of his injury and didn’t give any updates about the footballer. However, a few reports suggest that the footballer is out for at least a month.
With India’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers slated against Kuwait and Qatar on November 16 and 21, Ali’s injury has been nothing less than a big blow for the team. The 23-year-old’s presence would definitely play a crucial role in their campaign, while the injury raises concerns about his presence for the forthcoming fixtures.
Speaking of Mohun Bagan’s forthcoming fixtures, they are slated to play against Jamshedpur FC on November 1. Their Kolkata derby that was scheduled for October 28 has been postponed. It means that the Punjab-born has quite some time to recover from the injury, but it is only possible if the niggle isn’t serious.
