Argentine captain and football legend Lionel Messi is likely to win the Ballon d’Or Award in 2023. The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held in France Monday, October 30 and reports claim that everything is pointing towards the World Cup 2022 winning captain claiming it. If the reports are true, then this will be the historical eighth in his glorious career that Messi will win the coveted title.
The 36-year-old is running alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland who enjoyed a remarkable session with Pep Guardiola-managed side. Not only this, but the list of finalists also includes Barcelona’s Ilkay Gundogan and Robert Lewandowski. However, the reports by the ever-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano suggest that Messi is the favourite of all.
Romano took to Instagram to say that as per several indications, Messi will be awarded the title for the record eighth time. He wrote, “𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Leo Messi, expected to win the 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐝’𝐎𝐫 2023 — indications confirmed. It will be the historical 𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐝’𝐎𝐫 for Messi. Official decision to be announced on Monday night in Paris at Théâtre du Châtelet for Ballon d’Or Gala.”
Apart from winning the 2022 World Cup for his nation side, Messi also won the French Super Cup and Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint Germain (Ligue 1). The footballer finished last season with a record of 21 goals and 20 assists in 41 games he played across different games for the side.
