Australia dealt with a rough patch shortly after tea on day two of second Ashes 2023 Test at Lord’s when Nathan Lyon was helped to walk off the field with a suspected injury. The off spinner playing his 100th Test, pulled up a sore while attempting a catch at fine leg. Lyon didn’t play further for the rest of the day, leading to fear and concerns among the visiting fans regarding his participation in the remainder of the series. However, as per the latest developments, Nathan Lyon has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes 2023 series.
After the completion of the second Test, Aussie skipper Patt Cummins confirmed that Lyon will miss the series due to the calf injury.
Lyon suffered injury in the 37th over of England’s innings when the team was at 182 at the loss of one wicket. The 35-year-old cricketer was chasing a ball to the fence and when he was seen in discomfort, Lyon was immediately taken off the field. The Australian team updated the fans and followers on Lyon’s injury, informing that he suffered an injury on his right calf while fielding during the session. The team also said that Nathan was expected to require scans after the session to determine the severity of the blow he had received on his right calf.
Lyon’s participation in the remainder of the series appears to be in severe doubt, and no confirmations has been made yet. Lyon’s fellow Australia player Steve Smith, who scored his 32nd Test ton on day two of the second Ashes 2023 Test, addressed the media at the end of the day’s play on the same.
Smith said, "I haven't been up in the sheds yet, but obviously it didn't look good. It doesn't look ideal for the rest of the game.” He added, "I'm not sure how he actually is. But obviously if he's no good, it's a big loss for us. He's in his 100th consecutive Test match, which I know he was really looking forward to taking part in and having a role in as well. Fingers crossed he's OK, but it didn't look good."
