Athletes are often subjected to constant trolling on social media platforms by people who just want that one reply for their one moment of popularity on the internet. This trolling isn’t always restricted to the players’ on-field performance but also to their personal life including family members, partners etc.
One such incident recently surfaced on Instagram involving Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s wife and TV presenter Sanjana Ganesan, who is currently covering the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. She has been working with the International Cricket Council’s social media channels for the ongoing tournament.
Sanjana recently posted a picture from the Adelaide Oval ahead of the second semi-final between India and England, scheduled for 10 November 2022. The picture was captioned, “the weather in Adelaide at the moment is B-E-A-utiful.”
In the comments section of the post, one user by the name ‘uwais.khan.786’ commented, “Mam itni khubsurat bhi nahi ho But Bumrah ko kaise pata liya,” which translates to, "ma’am you're not so beautiful, how did you get Jasprit Bumrah". Reacting to this comment, Sanjana posted a savage reply which said, "@uwais.khan.786 aur khud jo chappal jaisi shakal lekar ghoom rahe ho uska kya?"
Talking about the T20 World Cup 2022, the tournament has been a roller-coaster ride as teams gear up for the knock-out stage. Group 1 saw defending champions Australia failing to make to the top two, after losing one against New Zealand and one game being washed out.
This opened up the way for England to defeat Sri Lanka and clinch the second spot behind a dominant New Zealand team. Then the real drama was witnessed on the final game day for Group 2. India, South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan, all were in contention to battle for the top spots. Each team had to win their game to have the chance for qualification.
The day started off with one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history where the Netherlands took down South Africa and gave Bangladesh and Pakistan a chance for the semi-finals. Here the Pakistan side took down their Asian rivals and finished in the top two. In the last game of the Super 12 stage, India ran through Zimbabwe to finish number one and clinch the semi-final spot from Group 2.
