India ace shuttler and two-time Olympics medalist PV Sindhu marched into the quarterfinal round of the Australia n Open 2023. Sindhu, who has been struggling with her form lately, defeated her compatriot Aakrshi Kashyap 21-14, 21-10 to move to the next round. 

Earlier, Sindhu took down Ashmita Chaliha 21-18, 21-13 in the women’s singles round of 16, whereas the 21-year-old Kashyap was coming on the back of a win over Malaysia's world No. 34 Goh Jin Wei 21-15, 21-17.   In the next round, Sindhu will lock horns with the fourth-seed Chinese-born American Beiwen Zhang. 

Fifth seed Sindhu, who faced early first-round defeats in seven tournaments this year, is playing under a new coach, Malaysia's Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, in the Australian Open 2023. 

Speaking of women's doubles, the Indian duo of Treesa Polly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela got crashed out of the tournament in the second round. The promising India pair lost the game to fourth seeds Japan's Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara of Japan 10-21 20-22.

The ongoing tournament is the last tournament before the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, which is scheduled to be hosted from 21 to 27 August 2023. It will be for the fifth time that Denmark will host the World Championships.
