On Tuesday, March 25, star India and Punjab Kings batter Shreyas Iyer hogged limelight with his prowess hitting. Iyer, who is leading Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, raced up to score 97* runs off 42 deliveries during his stay at the crease. During his 42-ball stay, he smashed nine maximums and five fours, at a strike rate of 230.95.
In his inning, he not only helped the Punjab-based franchise post 243 runs on the board, he also became only the seventh captain to score over 2000 runs in the cash-rich league. With this feat, he joined the elite list of IPL captains who have crossed the 2000-run mark in the tournament’s 18-year history.
Although, the list is headlined by Virat Kohli, who has racked up close to 5000 runs, he is followed by MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, David Warner, KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli: 4994 runs
MS Dhoni: 4660 runs
Rohit Sharma: 3986 runs
Gauta Gambhir: 3518 runs
David Warner: 3356 runs

Shreyas Iyer completes 6000 runs in men’s T20 cricket
While the above mentioned record is a notable feat, Iyer during his 97*-run inning, also completed 6000 runs in men’s T20 cricket. As soon as Iyer got to his 26th runs, he marked the 6000-run mark in his 224 th T20 appearance. Out of these, Iyer has amassed over 3100 runs in IPL.
