Legend and one of the finest pacers in the game of cricket, James Anderson put curtains to his elaborated career on Friday, July 12 at the Lord’s. However, with his crucial contribution with the ball and four wickets, he helped England take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series against West Indies.
Despite being aged 40, Anderson with his agile fitness, called down curtains with 704 Test wickets in his over 20 years of cricket. As he bid adieu to the game of cricket, wishes poured in from all around, but among all, what caught the attention was Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s message for the stalwart. Azam, who recently led Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies, made a massive blunder as he addressed Anderson’s swing as his “cutters”.
"It was a privilege to face your cutters, Jimmy! The beautiful game will now miss one of its greatest. Your incredible service to the sport has been nothing short of remarkable. Huge respect for you, GOAT 🫡," Azam captioned the post on social media.
However, soon on realisation, the Pakistan white-ball captain corrected himself as he changed “cutters” to “swing”.
Anderson at the end of the Lord’s Test, recalled his 20-year-long career in cricket. Speaking at the post-match presentation, the 40-year-old said, "It's been an amazing 20 years. Overwhelming to see the crowd reaction. It has been pretty special. Every time I wear this shirt I tried to win games for England. Has been different. Emotions have been up and down. Seeing my girls ring the bell on Day 1. It has been an amazing 20 years. You can't have a long career without the support network behind you. It's the familys journey as well as it is ours.”
