Former India opener Virender Sehwag took a dig at the former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and advised him to return to domestic cricket. Not only this, but the Indian cricketing stalwart also asked him to work on his fitness. Notably, ahead of the second Test against England in Multan, Pakistan’s selection committee made a surprising call by dropping key players which included Babar Azam from the final two matches of the series against the Three Lions.
Babar was replaced by Kamran Ghulam, who received his maiden Test cap. Ghulam was on the receiving end of criticism for his selection but he showed resilience and came up with a 118-run knock off 124 deliveries. Azam, on the other hand, has been on the receiving end of criticism from fans and pundits alike for his slump in form.
Babar Azam should play domestic cricket now: Virender Sehwag takes dig at former Pakistan skipper
Virender Sehwag, regarded as one of the most fierce batters India has ever had, is also known for mincing no words when it comes to voicing his opinion. He recently appeared on YouTube channel of former Pakistan star Shoaib Akhtar where he said that Azam should take part in domestic cricket now and then make a comeback in international cricket sphere with a strong mentality. Sehwag said, "Babar Azam should play domestic cricket now. He should work on his fitness, spend some time with family, then come back to international cricket as a physically fitter and mentally stronger player.”
He added, "With expectations from Babar decreasing and his resignation from captaincy, it seems he has been more impacted mentally than in terms of technique. He needs to stay mentally strong. He's a talented player, and players like him tend to bounce back quickly.” Speaking of the series, Pakistan levelled the series against England 1-1. The sides will lock horns for the series decider from October 24 in Rawalpindi.
