Arda Kardzhali, the Bulgarian football club, welcomed Petko Ganchev, one of their own, as special guest for their latest match against Cherno More on Wednesday, April 2, but in a shocking turn of events, it happened two weeks after they held a one minute silence for him. It is reported that Arda Kardzhali officials wrongly believed the news about club legend Petko Ganchev’s death before mourning it at last month’s match.
Notably, before the start of Arda Kardzhali’s league fixture on March 16 last month against Levski Sofia, the players of both the teams had lined up on the centre circle and bowed their heads to remember Petko Ganchev, believing that he had passed away. But, during their 1-1 draw, Arda Kardzhali took to their official social media account to reveal that they had received incorrect details about the death of the club legend, and he is still alive.
Once again we apologise to Petko Ganchev: Bulgarian club Arda Kardzhali
Just a few short weeks later, Arda Kardzhali had Petko Ganchev appear at the Arda Arena last night before their match against Cherno More, describing him as the legend of the club before giving him the jersey with his name inscribed on it. In their statement, the Bulgarian club said, “Before the match Petko Ganchev saw the sport director Ivaylo Petkov, who gave him a jubilee jersey. He watched the match in the company of other Arda veterans. Once again we apologise to Petko Ganchev.”
In an interview with Blitz, Petko Ganchev revealed that he was surprised by the club announcing his death mistakenly, hearing it while driving home before he told his family and friends about his whereabouts. He was quoted as saying to the Bulgarian outlet, “When I heard the terrible news, I poured myself a small brandy. Being buried alive is quite stressful, really.”
